Introduction to our purpose
We’ve all heard the term “research” at some point in our lives. Interestingly, we all have our own take on it. We cite research in our conversations. We believe that the opinions presented in research-backed documents and reports are trustworthy. Frequently, we blindly believe the opinions of others when they use the phrase “research suggests that.” We use reseach in everyday life, and yet it seems cut off from everyday.
So, think about it:
- What does research mean to you?
- Why does this term have such a high inherited value?
If you’re a college student, you’ve probably heard a professor say “Please cite research papers, not Wikipedia articles.” As a student, you are expected to learn how to conduct research while submitting assignments by reading peer-reviewed articles. If you are fortunate enough, you may be mentored by a senior student who has some experience with research.
The term “scientific research” is strongly associated with the image of a person surrounded by books, papers, multiple digital devices, and thousands of text files open on various mediums.
We are here to challenge this notion. We are firmly convinced that consuming research must be a part of our daily lives, the opinions we form, the decisions we make, and most importantly, the things we believe in. There are numerous studies on how to conduct research effectively. We are here to take the next step to collaboratively design how to consume research effectively with you.
Research should not be limited to peer-reviewed articles that are only available to experts in the field. Rather, research should be actively used to form collective knowledge that can be implemented in policies, design, and simply in our daily lives. We live in a knowledge age; allow us to invite you to capitalise on its strengths. We want to incorporate research in everyday life with the right scientific backing.
What to expect?
We will bring you articles backed up by extensive research and present you with our perspectives. We will raise questions that have risen in our minds. The goal is to encourage you to form your own opinion based on facts, schools of thought, and more questions from the standpoint of your expertise. We want you to question our ideas and opinions, not just accept the content as it is.
The topics we select will be global in nature, ranging from environment to sustainability to education, among other things, but will certainly have a local impact. To be more specific, we are not here to explain what research is or how to conduct one, but rather to demonstrate the power of consuming research by actually conducting one.
Who are we?
Two research enthusiasts from different disciplines on a mission to demonstrate the value of interdisciplinary research by asking questions rather than providing answers, defining problems rather than jumping to solutions, and conducting research with scientific rigour while presenting it as a consumable story.
